"You despise books, you whose life is devoted to the vanities of ambition and the search for pleasure, or plunged in idleness; but you should realize that the whole of the known world, with the exception of the savage races, is governed by books alone." Voltaire
Michael Moore - Dude Where's My Country ( already #1 N.Y. Times bestseller, 10-19-03)- "Leave no billionaire behind". Kind of like the French Revolution, something like "Leave no aristocrat behind" concerning the line to the guillotine. The system is suffering and Michael Moore spells out in humorous fashion just how bad it is. The New York Times called it "a bumper sticker that doubles as a book". This would have some bite if the New York Times and other major media would have spent the effort exposing, in a timely fashion if at all, the dastardly deeds of the Bush administration spelled-out in this book. Why is the info in this book not second hand knowledge for those who look to Mickey Mouse for their news source. Subscribers to the New York Times will learn a whole lot from this book that their subscription price did not include; while viewers of ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX, etc..,  will learn what the advertisers will not pay for. Instead of "a bumper sticker that doubles as a book" I think it would be more appropo - "Current Events for major media Dummies; a Reference for the rest ".
Greg Palast - The Best Democracy Money Can Buy - "The Truth about corporate cons, globalization, and high-finance fraudsters". This is the "nuts". Greg Palast is the source. "The greatest investigative journalist of our time" - Tribune Magazine. This is a must read for everyone. Palast, a native of Pacoima, who works in the U.K because major news outlets in the U.S. won't publish his work, at least not on time, is unlike the "popular" investigative journalists that are shoved in our face, Palast is first and foremost an investigator. This man, while employed to work undercover, was able to be accepted into the elite Chicago Boys - those select few economists programmed by Milton Friedman who have gone on to destroy economies in the south, starting with Chile, in favor of multi-nationals. Palast was able to infiltrate at the inception of what strangles the world economy today. He knows what he's talking about, he doesn't have to theorize, he was there. This book contains need-to-know info you won't find anywhere else, unless he's being sourced. Got to get this one. The 2000 Florida elections, Enron, Bush and Carlyle, Pat Buchanan diamond mines.., just a few of the stories scooped by Palast well before they were under-reported in the states, if at all. Palast the only journalist ever to be attacked by Blair in Parliament. "Painstakingly researched - distinguished" -Cicago Tribune. "Investigative Reporting at it's best." -Baltimore Chronicle. "Twisted" -Katherine Harris.

Jim Hightower - Thieves in High Places "Never have so few done so much for so few". "You can fool some of the peole all of the time; and those are the ones you should concentrate on" Bush admin marketing strategy. Hightower is great, he's been inside the system and tells you how it is. What's great about Hightower is his focus on action to affect change. In this book he crushes the age old myth that you can't beat city hall with examples of Joe Citizens from all over this country taking on the machine and winning. Take action, and the first action should be to buy this book.

Al Franken - Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them; a Fair and Balanced look at the Right - A "surgical strike" dissecting the body politic of right-wing propaganda. No collateral damage. Al Franken was sued by O'Reilly's FOX - the case was literally laughed out of court. O'Reilly is now trying to dismiss the book as defamatory. It's interesting to note that defamation was not part of the suit which would of made for a stronger case, if in fact that accusation had the slightest merit. A well researched read exposing the lies and half-truths used to manipulate the public.
Aaron McGruder - A Right to be Hostile; with foreword by Michael Moore - "How on earth can the most truthful thing in the newspaper be the comics!?!"
Lewis Carroll - including Alice in Wonderland; A wonderland of stories, nonsense and wit. Remove the wit and it reads much like a Scott McClellan press brief, Condoleeza Rice on This Week, Cheney on Meet the Press, Rumsfeld on FOX News Sunday or anytime Duh-Bya speaks in public.
J.H. Hatfield - Fortunate Son - Hatfield literally died for speaking the truth about duh-bya Bush. You need to read this book, learn what it was that George W. Bush and handlers did not want you to read, as they tried, unsuccessfully, to keep this book off the shelves. Especially as the elections are coming up, it's time to learn about who or what is occupying our white house.
David Corn - The Lies of George W. Bush - Not a big fan of Corn, Washington editor for the Nation while serving  in Murdoch's stable, still I recommend this book. A one stop shop for a running account of the lies and deceipt of George W. Bush and his handlers creating something out of nothing - and I do mean nothing.

Uri Dowbenko - Bushwacked - "Inside Stories of True Conspiracy". Bushwacked takes you through the major scams and scandals of the eighties and nineties. Stories not reported or under-reported in major press. Learn about the HUD fraud, Iran-Contra, S&L scandal, IRS kickbacks, the Enron Bush connection, DynCorp government connection and meet Al Martin a Bush Family Inc. insider - and much more. This book reveals in detail the workings of these scams and rampant obstruction of justice. And you'll recognize the names of the players as they are still at work, emerging from shady cracks and crevices to operate from within today's white house.

Dilip Hiro - Iraq; In The Eye of the Storm

"George W. Bush could succeed where Osama bin Laden failed in provoking a clash of civilizations between Islam and the West by launching a 'pre-emptive' attack on Iraq."

Brisard & Dasquie - Forbidden Truth - The international bestseller banned by Bush Family Inc.'s the Bin Laden Family. Here at last , in a revised and expanded edition for U.S. audiences, is the explosive international bestseller that so outraged the bin Laden family that a judge banned it in Switzerland, where one of bin Laden's brothers lives. It's publication here is destined to raise temperatures.
Peter Dale Scott - Drugs, Oil and War - "This is a brilliant, compelling, and startlingly original expose of American foreign policy as oil policy with an addiction to drug trafficking as it's adjunct." - Daniel Ellsberg; "Peter Dale Scott takes us for a controversial tour along the dark side of America foreign oplicy. The book builds a powerful case that Washington's War on Drugs is at best futile and at worst criminal." - Ambassador Robert E. White
Noam Chomsky - Understanding Power - Trying to articulate the importance of Chomsky is like trying to define infinity. Chomsky, the most important intellectual of our time, is a must read - enough said. Agree , disagree, but do consider.
William Greider - Secrets of the Temple - New York Times besteller - "May be the most important political book of the decade." - The Nation. " A gripping portrait of American economic civilization...brilliant author...wonderful book..." - The Wall Street Journal.
David Korten - When Corporations Rule the World - The Classic International Bestseller - A terrible title, a great book. "This is a must-read book - a searing indictment of an unjust international economic order, not by a wild-eyed idealistic left-winger, but by a sober scion of the establishment with impeccable credentials. It left me devastated but also very hopeful. Something can be done to create a more just economic order." - Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu, Nobel Peace Laureate.
Marjorie Kelly - The Divine Right of Capital (foreward by William Greider) - "The Real Cause of Corporate Scandals; and how to prevent them." Take a look behind the curtain and find the invisible hand of the all-knowing wizard is the greed of a decrepit and miserly Scrooge-type Plantation Owner on life-support sucking-up the community blood bank. Marjorie Kelly shows how what's old , beaten and disdained is new again - and ignorantly embraced. "The Sacred Texts - In the worldview of corporate financial statements, the aim is to pay stockholders as much as possible, and employees as little as possible." Consider the parralels between our current "market driven" corporate structure and the old feudal barons. "Liberty for Me, Not for Thee - Corporate capatalism embraces a predemocratic concept of liberty reserved for property holders, which thrives by restricting the liberty of employees and the community." The accolades and recommendations for this book are far too numerous to list in this space. This book is a surprisingly easy read while substantial enough to be utilized in Universities throughout the country.
Sheldon Rampton, John C. Stauber - Weapons of Mass Deception

Maude Barlow & Tony Clark - Blue Gold - The Fight to Stop the Corporate Theft of the World's Water - Blue Gold explains how multi-national corporations are buying up water rights, holding our most precious resource hostage. "Water promises to be to the 21st century what oil was to the 20th century; the precious commodity that determines the wealth of nations." - May 2000 Fortune magazine. Everyone should be concerned with keeping the water in public hands. This book explains what you can do - a must read. For a more in-depth overview of Blue Gold read From Wine into Water an article based on the info in this book.
